Hosts Morocco beat Cameroon to advance to AFCON semi-finals

Morocco Stuns Cameroon in AFCON Quarter-Finals Thriller

In a thrilling encounter at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, Morocco secured a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Cameroon to propel themselves into the Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals. The win marked a historic moment for Moroccan fans, who have not witnessed their team reach this stage since 2004.

Real Madrid winger Brahim Diaz opened the scoring on 26 minutes with his fifth goal in five AFCON matches, before Ismael Saibari sealed the win with a second-half strike. The victory came as no surprise to coach Walid Regragui, who acknowledged that his team needed to "keep going one game at a time" and avoid complacency.

The match presented a significant test for Morocco, who faced off against Cameroon, a team hoping to pull off an upset in front of their passionate home crowd. The Indomitable Lions created few scoring opportunities, with Manchester United forward Bryan Mbeumo struggling to make an impact.

Morocco's success has sparked hopes that the Atlas Lions can go on to claim their first AFCON title in over five decades. They will face a tougher challenge in the semi-finals against either Algeria or Nigeria, but coach Regragui remains focused on taking it one game at a time.

Meanwhile, Senegal secured a convincing 1-0 win over Mali in another quarter-final match-up. Everton forward Iliman Ndiaye scored the decisive goal in the first half, with Mali struggling to cope without their captain Yves Bissouma after he was sent off for a foul on Idrissa Gueye.

Senegal's victory sets them up to face either Ivory Coast or Egypt in the semi-finals. Coach Pape Thiaw praised his team's resilience, but acknowledged that they could have scored more goals if they had been more clinical in front of goal.

The win marked a significant milestone for Senegal, who will look to build on their momentum as they chase their third AFCON final appearance. The stage is now set for an exciting semi-final showdown between Morocco and the winner of the Algeria-Nigeria match-up.

omg finally some african football that's worth watching 🤣 morocco was literally expected to win this one, but i gotta give it up to cameroon they gave it a good fight 👊 brahim diaz is on fire tho 💥 and can we talk about how boring senegal played against mali? 😴 1-0 just isn't that exciting 🤷‍♀️ anyway, morocco's win is def a step in the right direction for afcon 🏆

man this afcon thing is getting pretty intense already 🤯 i mean morocco just beat cameroon 2-0 but let's be real that's not gonna be enough to take them all the way in the end they've gotta keep pushing and taking it one game at a time or else those semis are gonna fly by 'em 🔥 and what's with all these upsets happening? senegal beating mali 1-0 but we all know how that one is gonna play out eventually someone's gonna come along and shut them down 👊

I'm telling ya, this whole thing with Africa Cup of Nations feels like a setup 🤔. Like, what's really going on here? One minute it's Morocco, the next it's Senegal or whoever. It's all about the benjamins, baby 💸. And don't even get me started on these teams, they're just pawns in a much bigger game. I mean, think about it, Algeria and Nigeria are like the US and China of Africa - always vying for power 🌎. And then you have Morocco and Senegal, the underdogs who seem to be getting all the breaks... wink-wink 👀.

lol omg morocco is on fire!! 😂😍 they got that cameroon win like it was nobodies bidness! brahim diaz is a total stud, 5 goals in 5 afcon matches tho? 🤯 and senegal's iliman ndiaye is just the man, his goal against mali was pure class 🙌 now lets see if they can take down algiera or nigeria... i think morocco has this one 🤑👊

Omg I'm so hyped for Morocco!!! 🤩 They've worked so hard and deserve this win 🙌! I was on the edge of my seat watching the game, my friends and I were all screaming at the screen 👀. Brahim Diaz's goal was insane 💥! And now they get to face Algeria or Nigeria in the semis... it's gonna be a tough one 😬 but I know Morocco can do it 🔥! Go Atlas Lions 🦁💪
